Peace begins with a Pot

"Kiln It in a Container"

Tucked behind a scruffy fence in a rural backyard with alpacas looking in, stands a weathered shipping container — once a vessel for international freight, now the proud home of pots4peace a wildly creative, slightly chaotic pottery studio run by one woman, a wheel, and way too many coffee mugs with swear words on them.

Inside, the shelves are lined with lopsided bowls, cheeky mugs, and saucy vases, which wink at visitors (the few brave enough to venture past the “beware of spitting alpacas” sign). Every piece is handmade, and occasionally a little rude. One mug simply said: “I like a flat white one.”

Working from a shipping container means the space is tight, the Wi-Fi is dodgy, and the dog has claimed the only sunny spot. But it also means freedom — to throw, glaze, and curse at will.

Orders trickle in online, wrapped in layers of newspaper and packed in old boxes salvaged from neighbours.

People come for the swears, stay for the soul. And somewhere between the kiln firings and the glaze explosions, — I built a business. One weird, wonderful, eco-friendly piece at a time.
